ALI CLE Law Scholarship and Leadership Award

This award is presented to a member of the graduating class who best represents a combination of scholarship and leadership. The winner receives course tuition from the American Law Institute and the Dean’s Certificate of Achievement.
The winner this year, Jeremy Allen-Arney, received multiple nominations from faculty members. Jeremy attended Columbia University (Columbia College) earning his Bachelor of Art in Philosophy.

One faculty member said: “Jeremy is an exceptional student, leader, and person. He was the Editor-in-Chief of the Law Review, a Dean's Fellow, and is universally held in high esteem. He is a terrific student who is interested in the law both intellectually and for its potential to improve lives. And he is a charming, thoughtful, and caring person. I cannot think of a more deserving student.”
Another faculty member said “I know Jeremy in my capacity as the faculty advisor to the GW Law Review, and Jeremy served as the Editor in Chief of the Law Review during the past year. Jeremy is an excellent student, earning high grades throughout law school. He also has been an outstanding leader of a student-run organization that routinely selects, edits, and publishes some of the top legal scholarship in the nation. This is a complex undertaking by a complex organization with many moving parts. Jeremy handled all aspects of his leadership of the Review with grace, good cheer, and extreme care. Notably, he is also the first African-American Editor-in-Chief of the GW Law Review.  I can't think of a better student for this award.”
A third faculty member said: “As I am sure you know, Jeremy was the Editor-in-Chief of our flagship law review, which I assume counts as a rather significant leadership position. He was, in that regard, pathbreaking, as he was the first person of color to ever achieve that distinction. As you would also rightly conclude from this fact, he has compiled a very impressive academic record in his time at GW, and he is planning to begin at my old firm, Paul Weiss up in NYC after graduation, which of course endears him to me even further. If you know Jeremy at all, you know in addition that he is a super guy -- always cheerful, inquisitive, considerate, and possessed of a lovely sense of humor.”
